A Group Storytelling Site Inspired by the Egyptian Revolution: Group Stre.am [Wamda TV]
Yasmin Alayat, co-founder of Group Stre.am, describes how she and her team built the group storytelling platform to allow groups to tell their stories and share experiences, using social media. The project was inspired by the revolution in Egypt, and launched its first product, 18 Days in Egypt, in January of 2012, after the one-year anniversary of the revolution, to create a collaborative documentary by encouraging people to submit materials expressing Egyptian culture.
Alayat explains the project's broader goal of training young journalists in multimedia techniques throughout Egypt, and encouraging storytelling on a broad scale, regardless of its political import.
The project is supported by the Tribeca New Media Fund, as Global Wire Associates reported.
