At the Webrazzi conference earlier this month Axel Bringéus, Director of International Growth at Spotify, discussed Spotify’s goal to increase music access for users across the globe and the increasing importance of access over ownership in digital media.
In this brief interview, Bringéus reveals Spotify’s ambition to expand to Turkey and the Arab World, explaining that Spotify’s “only real competition is actually music piracy.” He adds that piracy virtually disappears in every market Spotify enters because the reason people download music illegally is due to the lack of a user-friendly legal option, which Spotify now provides.
He also discusses the MENA region’s overall music market outlook and the potential for Spotify’s competing interests with new startup Anghami.
