SME sector

• There are an estimated 25,000 SMEs in Kuwait, but 75% of these employ less than 30 people. Only 2% has more than 600 employers.
• 40 per cent of Kuwaiti SMEs operate in retail or wholesaling.

Economy

• Oil accounts for 90 per cent of Kuwait’s revenues , and has proven reserves of 100 billion barrels. 
• The booming real estate sector was subject to strong regulation to prevent speculation, including a ban on mortgaging and trading of property and land by investment funds.
• In 2009, the government passed an economic development plan that has committed to US$140 billion to invest in economic diversification.

Society

• Kuwait has the highest literacy rate in the Arab World at 93.3 per cent, and has very high standards in public and private education.
