SME sector
- Around 90% of all businesses in the UAE are SMEs., with 75% in the services sector.
- According to a Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry report in 2007, 97% of Dubai SMEs were making profit.
Economy
- Services account for 50.4% of GDP in the UAE, with tourism – around 6.5m visitors annually – generating over $3.5 billion in revenues alone.
- Abu Dhabi has the most asset-rich of the Emirati cities, wielding a portfolio worth an estimated US$360 billion in overseas investments.
- The UAE has become a center for financial services, with legislation that allows 100 per cent foreign ownership, a zero per cent tax rate on both income and profits.
Society
- Of the UAE’s 5 million population, 50% are South Asian, 23% Persian and non-Emirati Arab, and just 20% native to the Emirates.
