Beirutis entrepreneurs be prepared, StartUp Weekend is hitting our capital again! After a very successful event in November 2010, which was the first StartUp Weekend organized in the MENA, Beirut is hosting its second startup weekend on the 6th, 7th and 8th of July 2012, at Berytech, Mkalles.

Organized by a young group of enthusiastic Lebanese students who are aiming to have a high impact change in the Lebanese entrepreneurial ecosystem, StartUp Weekend Beirut this year will be different in terms of partnerships, organization and display. "We want to give the chance to existing startups to also take part of this event, this is why we are including a StartUps Fair, where we will have separate booths for startups to present their work and engage with mentors and investors, as well as sharing their experience with young entrepreneurs working on building their startups", says Abdallah Absi, one of the young organizers.

Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets – primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people – to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.

This year, the organizers are hoping to have good communication among the participants, making it as easy and simple as possible for them to find the appropriate team members for their startup.

Absi expects the event to gather around 200 participants and to have startups ideas mostly focused on web and mobile, "we are also expecting a lot of social applications", he adds.
