Starting this year, the number of mobile devices used to access the internet will overtake the number of desktop devices, for the first time in the history of the web.
While this infographic by KISSmetrics on the impact of mobile web on business is mostly focused on U.S. data, it demonstrates the growing global trend towards shopping online; in 2012, PayPal saw 190% more mobile payment volume on the biggest shopping day in the U.S. as it did in 2011.
Importantly for Middle East e-commerce sites, data shows that consumers are more patient on mobile devices, waiting 5 seconds on average for pages to load, as opposed to 2 seconds on a desktop.
Mention of a location or city name can improve click-through rates on mobile ads by 200%.
Also, patience is key when it comes to selling online- 44% of mobile shoppers may need to use an app more than 10 times before making their first purchase.
