This year's GITEX Technology Week aims to be bigger than ever, bringing designers, developers, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and technology enthusiasts from all over the globe under one roof to exhibit the latest technological developments, as well as to share their expertise in tech.

Besides showcasing the latest in tech devices, this year's event will dedicate most of its agenda to Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), alongside a number of other cutting edge technologies that will be put for the public to see and experience.

Taking place on the week of October 16-20, the Dubai World Trade Centre is expecting an influx of at least 150,000 attendees who will take part in "re-imagining reality" through pushing technological boundaries.

With IT investment reaching an all-time high in the region, it is not surprising that it takes center stage with an array of products that are gaining global attention, especially in the fields of 3D printing, drones, smart living, robotics, and iCities.

This year, GITEX is paving the way for future inventors: world-class speakers will be sharing their knowledge with a number of ambitious entrepreneurs who will also have the opportunity to showcase their ideas to an audience of hand-picked international investors. This year's diverse lineup of speakers will include a number of entrepreneurs and innovators who are leading the way in their respective fields, including Rumie founder Tariq Fancy and Shahid Azim of Quanttus.

The GITEX Startup Movement will enable 400 startups from over 35 countries to pitch their businesses to leading tech investors, in hopes of winning a cash prize of USD 130,000. Judges will include Benjamin Rohé, Managing Director of GTEC, German Tech Entrepreneurship Center, Keith Kaplan, CEO of Tesla Foundation, and Muhammed Mekki, CEO of Astrolabs.

Two engaging panels, Startup Talks and Mentor Clinics, will bring together three of the industry's most successful global leaders: Futurist technology evangelist Robert Scoble, award-winning journalist and investor Ben Parr, and professor of cognitive science at the University of California Donald Hoffman.

Another area dedicated solely for startups will be featuring App Hacks, an environment for disruption and innovation to develop ideas for next gen smart city solutions:

  • Hackathon One: Best Smart Citizen Project
  • Hackathon Two: Best Smart Sustainability Project
  • Hackathon Three: Best Smart Education Project
AED 50,000 will be awarded for first place, AED 30,000 for second, and AED 20,000 for third.
In addition, the "Student Lab" corner will be specifically aimed at encouraging university students to innovate by finding creative solutions to a number of issues, whether through engineering, technology, science, or computing.
