Thousand of tons of waste cooking oil is produced around the world every year, with large amounts dumped in rivers and landfills.
Cooking oil waste represents a significant challenge when it comes to disposal, but some companies are proving that it can be a good source of biofuel.
Moroccan startup Kilimanjaro Environnment collects cooking oil from households and restaurants to transform it into biofuel.
Founder Youssef Chaqor said Morocco used 500,000 tons of edible oils every year, of which about 20 percent could be recycled.
It’s a $100 million opportunity.
