Careem establishes new company with Dubai Road and Transport Authority

Careem has partnered with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to launch an E-Hail taxi joint venture.

The new company will launch in April 2019 with its name and logo to be announced within the next few months. According to the RTA, Careem was chosen to after “five of the big” on-demand taxi companies in the global market submitted technical and financial proposals for the joint venture.

Careem will provide the technology and management of bookings and drivers on its existing app for the new company.

“Through this new company, the RTA intends to leverage the taxi sector in Dubai. It involves raising the efficiency of taxis in Dubai through enhanced accessibility of vehicles and their online booking and reducing the expected waiting time for the vehicle,” said Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors of the RTA.

The e-hail of about 10,800 taxis will be exclusively run for a limited period by the new company added Al Tayer with the online booking market of about 6500 limousines will remain unchanged.

The move reflects Dubai’s growing desire to become a global smart city, providing seamless and affordable transportation is part of this goal.

“Combining our technology capability with RTA's vast industry knowledge, we will build a platform that delivers broader choice, optimum customer experience and reliable, safe transportation for everyone,” said Mudassir Sheikha, co-founder and managing director at Careem.
