Press release:

MENA-focused education technology platform Abwaab has acquired Apex Education, a startup specialising in elite college admissions, as part of its strategy to support students across the full education journey, from early learning to global university placement.

Founded in 2019 by Leila Hassan (University of Oxford), Hussein Elkheshen (University of Chicago), and Mohamed Ebied (Harvard University), Apex Education provides personalised admissions advisory services for students applying to the world’s most competitive universities. Since its launch, Apex has supported students in securing admissions to institutions including Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, Columbia, UChicago, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Imperial College London, UCL, and EPFL.

The acquisition strengthens Abwaab’s positioning across the student lifecycle, complementing its existing offerings in tutoring and test preparation with high-end admissions guidance for top global universities.

Hamdi Tabbaa, co-founder and CEO of Abwaab, said the move aligns with the company’s long-term mission. “Abwaab’s vision is to unlock the full human potential of students across the region. Apex has built deep trust with families through a proven track record of placing students into the world’s most competitive universities, helping them reach their full potential.”

Following the acquisition, Leila Hassan will continue to lead Apex Education’s admissions services within Abwaab.

“At Apex, we always believed that with the right guidance, every student can achieve more,” Hassan said. “Joining Abwaab allows us to scale our impact, reach more students, and build the infrastructure needed to support them, without sacrificing quality or personalisation.”

Going forward, Abwaab plans to integrate Apex’s admissions expertise with its recently launched tutoring and test preparation offerings for international curricula, creating a unified platform that combines academic support, test prep, and expert global admissions guidance.
