Careem has re-launched its services in Muscat after partnering with local taxi operator, Marhaba Taxi. The UAE-based ride-hailing app was suspended from operating in the country last year after authorities in Oman insisted that the company work with licensed taxis in the country.

Marhaba Taxi drivers will now be registered on Careem's platform with users charged the same fare as regular taxis.

“Oman is a strategically important country for us as it completes our footprint across the GCC,” said Khaled Nuseibeh, general manager at Careem GCC. “With Marhaba Taxi on our platform, we can bring all the benefits of ride-hailing to customers in Muscat at affordable and transparent prices.”

Careem now operates in more than 100 cities across 15 countries.
