TIER marks return of e-scooters in Dubai

Berlin-based micro-mobility provider TIER, has launched its first fleet of e-scooters in Dubai. This marks the first launch of an e-scooter service in the emirate since it was banned by the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) on safety grounds in 2019.

Designated parking spots for the e-scooters have been outlined across Dubai for both TIER and Arnab, which has been operational in Abu Dhabi over the past year. The micro-mobility sector was adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic and Germany’s Circ stopped its operations in Abu Dhabi following the lockdown.

But now with many people returning to the office, demand for micro mobility is on the rise.

“Sustainability is a core value of our company which is why we are honoured and excited to be selected as the top choice by the RTA to support them with their journey for a greener tomorrow, by providing our services to Dubai’s residents and visitors alike, while allowing them to move around the city in a more sustainable, convenient and lively way - a new era in urban travel,” said Lawrence Leuschner, CEO and co-founder of TIER.

TIER will be the first company in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region to roll out an operating model based on swappable batteries. Besides, TIER looks to become be the first and last mile connectivity provider to link people with their vehicles, public transport stations, homes, offices, and retail outlets across Dubai.

“We believe that during these unprecedented times, our business concept will be put to best use as it will reinforce social distancing measures by promoting alternative yet safe and sustainable ways of transport,” added Leuschner.
