• Egyptian healthtech startup Reme-D has raised $1.45 million in a Pre-Series A funding round led by Anara Impact Capital, with participation from the Global Innovation Fund, Africa Health Ventures, and other investors, to expand its manufacturing capacity, regional footprint, and diagnostic product portfolio.
• Founded in 2023 by Salma Tammam, Reme-D develops and manufactures molecular diagnostic tests for diseases including tuberculosis (TB), HIV, hepatitis, and HPV, with a focus on delivering affordable, temperature-resilient diagnostics for underserved markets across Africa.
• The new funding will also support the development of new diagnostics for genetic diseases and cancer, alongside expanding production capacity by tenfold.
• Last April, Reme-D secured a $500,000 investment from the Global Innovation Fund (GIF) to scale its molecular diagnostics solutions.

Reme-D, an Egyptian healthtech company developing and manufacturing molecular diagnostic solutions, has closed a $1.45 million Pre-Series A funding round led by Anara Impact Capital, with participation from the Global Innovation Fund, Africa Health Ventures, and other investors.

Founded with the aim of making advanced diagnostics more accessible across Africa and other underserved markets, Reme-D develops accurate, fast, affordable, and temperature-resilient diagnostic tests for diseases including TB, HIV, hepatitis, and HPV (a leading cause of cervical cancer in women). 

The funds from this round will help Reme-D expand its manufacturing capacity, regional reach, and product portfolio. The company plans to add tests for new disease areas, including genetic diseases and cancer-related tests, while making more of them temperature-resilient and easier to transport and store in remote locations and in healthcare facilities with limited infrastructure.

Since 2023, Reme-D has developed and commercialised 30 diagnostic products at its manufacturing facility in Cairo and supplied over 550,000 tests across Egypt, Kenya, and Sudan. The company supplies both public and private laboratories, hospitals, and research institutions, and its products have been used in international scientific publications. Reme-D has also filed a US patent application covering its proprietary technology.

Most recently, Reme-D successfully equipped a custom-made solar-powered mobile laboratory commissioned by the WHO Egypt country office to contribute to the Egyptian Ministry of Health’s monitoring of vector-borne diseases in remote areas. 

With a team that has grown from five to 50 people, Reme-D will now move to a 1500 sqm facility and upgrade its equipment, enabling the company to increase its capacity by tenfold. The company will also continue expanding its market access across Africa and strengthening its quality and regulatory capabilities.
