Anghami Sees Surge in Downloads, Partners with Orange

Just a week after launching, Anghami is taking steps to monetize.

Yesterday, the team announced a partnership with Orange, a Jordanian mobile operator who unveiled a new mobile plan called "Min El Ekhir 2" that provides voice minutes, SMS, 3G internet and Anghami with 750 MB per week of free 3G downloads, for 2JD (US $3) a week. With this bundle, users will also get access to Anghami and can download music free of charge.

"This is big on Anghami's roadmap," mentions co-founder Elie Habib.

They also shared with us the impact of their article published on Wamda; sales have jumped up 19333.3% since they went live.

The team is definitely getting the word out, and promise that more telecom deals will follow soon, bringing the platform to markets throughout the region.

Anghami will be offering a catalog of 2 million arabic and international tracks by end of the year, building upon their existing tracks. Signing deals with telecoms like Orange will be key to increasing their market share and introducing their product to a broad userbase- the experiment to see whether streaming can gain in popularity over downloads is now running.

Stay tuned to hear more on Wamda soon.
