Introduction to Video Game Design

The Design Institute Amman is hosting a course titled “The Age of Videogames: from Pong to Gamification.” By defining game design principles through the study of the technical and artistic evolution of the medium, the course will present a broad spectrum of the communication possibilities offered by video games mechanics.

Those possibilities will be translated into fully operational prototypes through the learning of the most easily accessible design tools for developing videogames, bringing to life individual interactive projects.

While studying the most relevant and successful video games projects, the course will focus on the guidelines that lead to the creation and development of a game project from scratch.

By the end of the course, students will be able to develop their own game design concept from a planning perspective and will have obtained the basics to create their own prototype with license-free software available on the Internet.

Participants should bring a Laptop with StencylWorks downloaded (v.2.0) and a USB Key. The course will take place over 5 consecutive days, at 7 hours per day starting on February 7, 2013 at the King Abdullah II Fund for Development/Gaming Lab.
