Okadoc closes $10 million Series A

UAE-based doctor booking platform Okadoc has closed a $10 million Series A round, following a $2.3 million seed round in 2018.

The latest fundraising round is the largest healthtech Series A and will be used to promote its telehealth offering, including virtual consultations as well as  pre-‎consultations and follow-up appointments for patients as well as fuel expansion to the GCC.

“Our mission at Okadoc is to build and deploy technologies to improve the healthcare experience for everyone involved. We are fixing the broken patient experience that exists today while at the same time improving operational efficiency for payors and providers,” said Fodhil Benturquia, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Okadoc.

The company launched its instant booking feature in the UAE last year and claims to have 1000 bookable doctors from 70 specialties in healthcare facilities across the country.

We wanted to continue this great momentum, expand in other markets and introduce new functions, so we felt that the time is right to raise more capital to enable us to do so,” said Benturquia.

As part of its expansion strategy, Okadoc has partnered with Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) along with some of the UAE’s healthcare providers, such as Medcare, Aster Hospitals, Emirates Healthcare Group.

Okadoc has also been operating in Indonesia since 2018 and has recently launched a new platform tailored to address local healthcare challenges in the country.
