  • Jordan-based BeyondCapital has invested in three Jordanian startups; Wafii, a loyalty and payments platform where users earn loyalty points and merchants are provided with business insights, the AI-powered agritech Palmear, and the esports live-streaming platform Bith TV, through its angel network (BCAN).
  • Matching the investments from the angel network members, BeyondCapital also directly deployed small-ticket investments into the three companies through its Scout Program.
  • Funded by USAID, BeyondCapital launched BCAN in 2019 to assist its angel members with investment deal flow and legal support. The company invests in early-stage startups and has 42 portfolio companies so far.

Press Release:

Since January, three companies have secured investments from Beyond Capital’s Angel Network (BCAN). The angel network promotes co-investments where members can pool their resources together to invest in promising opportunities.

Matching the investments from the Angel Network members, BeyondCapital also directly deployed small-ticket investments into the three companies through its Scout Programme.

Meet the companies: Wafii, a loyalty-based platform that enables customer data collection for businesses; Palmear, a platform that uses AI and acoustics to detect pests in palm trees; and Bith TV, a clip sharing and tournament hub for Arab Gamers and eSports teams.

BCAN expands and directs funding at the angel level into early stage startups in Jordan and MENA. BCAN facilitates investment syndicates and administers a systematic investment approach for Angels seeking out attractive opportunities. Its group of trained investors gather on a bi-quarterly basis to assess a  curated startup presentation.

BeyondCapital, the USAID funded organisation launched its Angel Network in partnership with GIZ, and ISSF. In collaboration with its partners, BCAN provides its members with deal flow, comprehensive investment training, due diligence and legal support.

Talal Tabbaa, BeyondCapital’s Scout who sought out Wafii said: “the deals made in parallel with the Scout programme and the Angel network is a great example of how BeyondCapital promotes a wide access to different sources of capital for early-stage companies.”

“BeyondCapital’s Angel Network has been a consistent and solid source of deal flow. There is a sense of community and an active one at that”, said Shaker Muasher, member of the BCAN.

BCAN and the Beyond Capital Scout Programme aim to tie the ropes together to create seamless, pedagogical methods to invigorate the Jordanian ecosystem as a whole.
