What tools do developers prefer when building a mobile app? [Infographic]

A recent study by VisionMobile revealed that 67% of mobile developers are below the “app poverty line” of $500 per app per month. Specifically, 61% of iOS and 68% of Android developers are below the app poverty line

Although this is a global average, the amount of developers below this poverty line may be even higher in the Arab world as the ecosystem continues to develop. But what is perhaps even more interesting, and useful for such developers, is understanding the preffeered strategies of other app creators as far as revenue models and developer tools.

The infographic below illustrates more of the report’s findings, including that 72% of mobile developers around the world use Android while 56% use iOS. But 74% of developers use two or more platforms at the same time which, according to the report, usually generates higher revenues than only using one platform. While advertising remains the most popular revenue model, subscriptions pay developers more money.

The infographic also shows that 90% of developers use at least one third-party tool or service, the most popular being ad services followed by user analytics, cross-platform tools, and backend-as-a-service (BaaS) tools.
